University of Ferrara – Law Department – ITALY

The University of Ferrara (UNIFE) is particularly sensitive to issues of gender equality. Within the university, there is a designated delegate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and each department has its own gender delegate (Orsetta Giolo, who is part of the project team, serves in this role in the Department of Law). The university also has a specific Office dedicated to inclusion and adopts the Gender Balance and Gender Equality Plan annually. It carries out awareness-raising activities on inclusion directed to the university community as well as to high-school students and to the general public. UNIFE includes staff with scientific and educational expertise on equality from a gender perspective. UNIFE constantly collaborates with the third sector. Its fruitful and well-established collaboration with the feminist associations which are active in Ferrara and in Emilia-Romagna Region, as well as its previous contacts with student collectives, will make it feasible the construction of intergenerational focus groups. The presence of researchers who hold the ownership of courses in Law and Gender will allow the involvement of students from the Departments of Law and Humanities. The legal training of the staff involved in the project will ensure a deepening of the contents of equality in close connection with the themes of rights, citizenship, and democracy.
