Key Institutions and Agencies Advancing Gender Equality in Europe

This section offers an overview of the main European institutions, agencies, and networks that play a central role in shaping, implementing, and monitoring gender equality policies across Europe. From specialised EU agencies such as the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), to the institutional work of DG JUST and the FEMM Committee of the European Parliament, each body contributes with distinct tools, strategies, and legislative initiatives.

It also highlights pan-European actors like the Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Division, as well as innovation-oriented entities such as the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) and its programmes supporting women’s entrepreneurship.

In addition, major networks and EU funding programmes, including the CERV Programme, the European Women’s Lobby, and the Gender Equality Advisory Panel under Horizon Europe, illustrate how gender equality efforts are supported, monitored, and expanded across sectors, member states, and civil society.

Together, these institutions form the structural backbone enabling the development, enforcement, and continuous evolution of gender equality frameworks in Europe.
